How do you show teamwork and collaboration in a holiday greeting that also imparts fun and creativity?
Would it be a card? A calendar? A video? One thing was agreed upon: because there were a number of tragedies and divisive incidents that occurred in 2017, we wanted the message to be simple, authentic, and heartfelt. And that’s how we came up with our message — Peace. Unity. Love. Hope.
Originally, the team came up with the idea of a giant poster on a wall. Everyone would play a role in putting it together; carrying pieces of the poster, and sticking the final piece to the wall. But after further collaboration, it was decided that the poster would be created on the floor, and the video department would use the time-lapse technique to film team MIC putting it all together.
Prepping for the Shoot
Right before Thanksgiving break, MIC employees gathered at the landmark Rialto Theatre two blocks away to participate in the video creation. The videographer filmed us coloring in the letters and physically putting the pieces of the poster together on the floor. The setting was historical, the mood was festive, and everyone wore bright, colorful clothes.
Working Together to Make Something Meaningful
At the Director’s “action,” we passed blocks of the poster to each other, which were then fitted together on the floor like a puzzle. They shot close ups of us working together to create the oversized greeting. Then we gathered together around the finished poster. We danced, we laughed, we danced some more. We had a blast.
In the end, we created something simple, honest, and beautiful – which is what we do at MIC. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it.
Wishing you the happiest of holidays. May it be filled with peace, unity, love, and hope.
